Support

This page contains the needed information and files to get your Interlude Audio HAT up and running.

Both of our current HATs require special drivers that are not included in off-the-shelf distributions. We’ve addressed this by offering customer distributions that include our drivers and support so that you can quickly and easily start listening to music without having to hack the Linux kernel. We offer three different images.

The first is our custom version of the Raspberry Pi OS (based on Debian Linux). This will allow you the most flexibility of how you use our HAT however, it will require more intimate knowledge of Linux. This is primarily for audiophiles who want to do other things with their Raspberry Pi, run other custom software, or those who are looking to tinker around. Get this directly from the Raspberry Pi website or through the Raspberry Pi Imager.

The second option is the Interlude Audio Busker OS. Busker is designed to have the key open source packages that you might want for your audio system. This include Shairport-sync (Apple Airplay 1), Raspotify (Spotify Premium) and Roon Bridge. It’s designed to be a quick and easy way to get started with your new HAT.

The final option is the Volumio OS. Volumio is a web interface musci player which will allow you to play from your home library or listen to web radio. Find more information on Volumio’s website. https://volumio.com/get-started/

If you’re not sure where to start we’d suggest Busker OS.

With all of our HATs there is no need to edit config files. We’ve included config ROMs that tell the kernel which drivers to load.

For more detailed information regarding the installation and booting of the different OS options, please see our Detailed Start Guide. Below are links for both Busker OS and Volumio for Interlude Audio.

FAQ

Q: Why can’t I run blank OS?

A: Our Hat require driver changes to the Linux kernel. We are working to get these changes merged into the Raspberry Pi Linux kernel, but it will take time for these changes to get into future distributions. So in the mean time you can get our driver and build a customer kernel, but if you not a Linux Kernel hacker (like us) then you should run one of our OS images.

Q: Can you support blank OS?

A: Yes, we are open to adding support for standard OS images if we can build them ourselves. Some Operation Systems like Ropieee don’t offer this since they are closed source. This is why we included Roon Bridge into Busker OS. If you have a request please send it to support@interludeaudio.com and we’ll put it on the roadmap.

Q: Can I run Busker OS without your Hat?

A: Yes! We have support for all existing HATs in our OS and it should work. While we are not testing HATs from other vendors, since we don’t have them in our lab, if their code is in the base Raspberry Pi OS we’d generally expect them to work with no issue. If you find a bug please submit it to our GitHub project and we’ll take a look at it.

Q: Where can I get the drivers changes for Interlude Audio’s Hats?

A: At our GitHub repo. All of our software for the HATs is open-source so take a look at https://github.com/InterludeAudio/rpilinux
